Jack Herring (Rollins) hit his first home run as a Lark in his first at-bat at Bismarck Municipal Ballpark. The Larks would finally get on the board in the bottom of the ninth with two outs. Max Williams (Alabama) would then hit a solo homer in the seventh to add to the lead. The orange and black put up six runs in the inning, highlighted by a sacrifice fly from Easton Fritcher (Minnesota), two RBI walks, and Nolan Tichy (U Mass) dunking a ball down the line in right to clear the bases.įlash forwarding to the sixth, after scoring in the two previous innings, Mankato would put up 4 more, with Joe Hauser (Minnesota) hitting a towering home run the other way to make it a 13-0 ballgame. The scoring got going in the second for Mankato. Goetz also threw the Metro Area Fastest Pitch of the Game in the first inning at 89 mph. He faced off with Larks’ righthander Dillon Goetz (Skyline), who took his third loss of the season despite giving up no earned runs. The MoonDogs’ southpaw threw a seven-inning gem, giving up no runs or walks and striking out 10. On the mound, it was the Caleb Strack (Iowas) show. The MoonDogs were firing on all cylinders and couldn’t be stopped. However, Mother Nature had other plans in Bismarck, and the Larks only got in game one. It just wasn’t the Larks’ day today, as the yellow birds woke up early to take on the Mankato MoonDogs in what was supposed to be the first game of a doubleheader. O'Toole is one of 10 NCAA Division I wrestlers to earn Academic All-American distinction this year, with seven of the 10 residing in the Big 12 Conference. Additionally, he was named an NWCA Scholar All-American for the third time and an Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree in 2022-23. In the classroom, O'Toole maintained a 3.69 grade point average as a personal financial planning major. The two-time Hodge Trophy finalist outscored his opponents 43-11 on his way to the championship bout and knocked off two All-Americans. Solidifying the repeat, O'Toole was crowned the 2023 National Champion at 165 pounds for the second consecutive season after defeating David Carr of Iowa State 8-2 in the final match. Additionally, the sophomore led the team with 79 takedowns across the season, averaging 3.59 takedowns per match, while topping Mizzou in total riding time with over 41 minutes. In his third year as an All-American, O'Toole totaled 13 bonus-point victories and 13 wins over ranked opponents. O'Toole is the sixth wrestler in program history, with 10 total, to earn the Academic All-America accolade as voted on by the CSC. – Making an impact on the mat and in the classroom, sophomore Keegan O'Toole was selected as a second-team Academic All-American by College Sports Communicators (CSC) Wednesday, June 21.
